IUSSC has been a focal point of my tenure at UCLA. I came to UCLA seeking research opportunities, guidance on my major in environmental science, and new friends. IUSSC has certainly fulfilled all of these desires for me, and I aim to continue this trend for all current and future members. 

    IUSSC is a community of individuals who are passionate about sustainability. To be an effective member of IUSSC, it does not matter how much sustainability work you have done or the major you are taking, but rather that you are passionate about sustainability. Passion is one of the greatest traits of this club, and has allowed individuals from different backgrounds, majors, and career interests to come together and create a thriving community, and undertake amazing research, for the purpose of creating a more sustainable world. 

    IUSSC’s strength lies in its interdisciplinary teams. By bringing together members from diverse academic backgrounds, we can explore sustainability from multiple perspectives. Members do not only gain research skills, but also close friendships through this cohort style.

​    Additionally, IUSSC members develop presentation skills through our UCLA and travel summit. This experience has been invaluable to me, as presenting to fellow students and faculty during the UCLA summit, and NGOs and conferences with the travel summit, has increased my confidence in my ability to do effective research and create change. As sustainability and climate issues continue to be of utmost importance, our members will create progress in the right direction and inspire others to follow suit. 

​    I am proud of the relationships IUSSC has created and the community it has fostered. I have gained so much knowledge from those around me, and I am confident that all current and future members won’t have to take my word for it, but will find it true for themselves.
